Who are we?
OceanCareers.com is a nationwide project supported by COSEE California (Centers for Ocean Sciences Education Excellence), part
of a National Science
Foundation (NSF) network created to foster scientists’ involvement
in ocean science education. One of ten COSEE
Centers nationwide, COSEE California represents a powerful collaboration between the Marine
Advanced Technology Education (MATE) Center at Monterey
Peninsula College, the Lawrence
Hall of Science at UC Berkeley, the Scripps
Institution of Oceanography and the Birch
Aquarium at Scripps, and California
Sea Grant.
   
  
 
Why did we build this site?
Because the oceans are vital to our lives and livelihood!
Did you know that the oceans sustain one out of every six American
jobs now? *

Did you know that 20% of our economy is based on ocean related
activities?
Ocean careers support:

- Current trends in research and industry are not well reflected in many educational programs.
- Clear links are missing between education programs, marine careers, and the marine economy.
- There is a lack of readily available information about careers in non-academic marine science and technology positions.
- Many ocean occupations are not classified by the Department of
Labor and therefore are hidden from educators and students.
